Oral vs. IV therapy in CAP 3
High AB tissue- and serum- concentrations needed :
- Betalactams : initial IV therapy needed; sequential to oral ASAP
- fluoroquinolones (pharmacokinetic bioequivalency IV/PO) : - clinical success rates: sequential IV/PO = PO (1) - if adequate absorption : initial oral therapy possible
- Mortality decreases significantly when 1st AB dose given < 8h after hospitalization (2)
